During my work I was involved in a number of practical courses and responsible for the supervision of the student groups.
– The practical courses will be offered together with the seminar since 2017 at the TU Darmstadt. At the Darmstadt University, the practical courses are so called individual projects with just single individual students or a single group. Both will not listed here due its different kind. –

SS2012: Semantic Web Visualization
Graphical representations of information provide an efficient way for acquiring knowledge. Thereby the visualization of complex data and knowledge structures offers great possibilities for knowledge acquisition and information exploration, whereas the preparation of the complex data under the consideration of the main task of information visualization, namely the communication between computer and human, plays a key-role.
In the practical course “Semantic Web Visualization”, students work in groups of two or three persons on a selectable topic in the area of information visualization. The main target is to develop a user-centered visualization using web programming languages.
WS2009/2010: Interaction in Virtual Worlds
The practical course “Interaction in Virtual Worlds“ offers in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research an insight into applied research. Students in Groups (2 to 4) will work on a topic from the area of “Interaction with Graphical User Interfaces (GUI)“, which can be chosen by the students themselves. Based on real scenarios from the applied research, this practical course will offer the opportunity to apply different methods for creating User Interfaces in different contexts. The course will be closed successfully with the implementation of an exemplary User Interface or graphical visualization, whereas the scientists from the Fraunhofer, with their different expertise will support the students in their work.
The main goal of the practical course is to offer an insight into the practical work of an applied research institution, with the practical implementation and integration of User Interfaces based on methods of HCI (Human-Computer-Interaction).
WS2008/2009: Interaction in Virtual Worlds
This internship combines technologies of Web 2.0, semantic web and adaptive interaction based on innovative input devices.
Web-based virtual multi-user worlds allow new forms of interaction and communication on web. The use of Web 2.0 technologies allows creating so-called “social networks” in which heterogeneous groups communicate and interact. Due to the wide availability of low-cost game controllers (e.g. WII) new interactions ways arise. These include the natural exploration of 3D spaces or navigation using gestures. Knowledge-based applications become more and more important as the semantic web growth. This brings up new questions both about the knowledge-visualization as well as editing of knowledge structures and the annotation of knowledge to unstructured data.
To solve these questions in this internship a virtual world will be created within which semantic structures can be visualized. As interaction devices wii-controller will be used.
