SS2021: Advanced Seminar – Visual Analytics und Machine Learning

Analyses are a constant necessity, not least due to increasing digitalization, and this applies equally to the identification of errors, problems or opportunities for improvement. Visual analytics relies on the combination of algorithmic and massive computational capabilities of computer-based systems and the visual and cognitive capabilities of the user. The main seminar will focus on the use of visual analytics in current applied areas such as smart manufacturing, trend analysis or legal analytics. Current approaches, methods and implementations are to be researched and examined, taking into account given tasks. The goal should be a scientific elaboration based on empirical and scientific standards.

SS2020: Advanced Seminar – Visual Analytics for Smart Manufacturing and Trend Analysis

Due to the increasing digitization, analyzes are a constant necessity, which also applies to the identification of errors, problems or opportunities for improvement. With visual analytics, the combination of algorithmic and massive calculation opportunities of computer-based systems on the one side as well as the visual and cognitive skills of the users on the other side are used together. The seminar focuses on the use of visual analytics in the two current areas of smart manufacturing and trend analysis. On behalf of the given task, current approaches, methods and implementations should be researched and examined. The goal should be a scientific elaboration based on empirical and scientific standards.

WS2024/2025: Visual trend analysis

Participants independently familiarize themselves with a scientific topic in the area of Visual Analytics, Trend Analytics and Visual Trend Analysis

This includes:

  • self-dependent literature research and review, assisted by the advisor
  • classification and interpretation of the gathered research results
  • writing independently a document in a scientific paper format about the chosen topic (German or English), assisted by the advisor
  • preparing independently a presentation of their results, assisted by the advisor
  • giving the presentation in front of experts in their field
  • discussing the results after the presentation

Participants will get immediately feedback to their presentation, talk and discussion (rhetoric, presentation techniques).
