Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: Business Information Systems, CERC, Computer Science, Conference, Data Processing, e-Healthcare, e-Learning, Education, Engineering, Europe, Machine Leanring, Research, Society, Visusal Computing @proceedings{CERC2023, In an era marked by unprecedented technological advancements, the 2023 Collaborative European Research Conference (CERC) convened in Barcelona, Spain, on June 9-10, 2023, as a hybrid event. This gathering underscored the imperative of interdisciplinary collaboration across Europe, bringing together researchers from diverse fields to address the multifaceted challenges and opportunities presented by rapid innovation. The conference featured a keynote address that delved into the swift evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and its profound societal implications. The discourse highlighted the integration of AI across various professions, emphasizing the necessity for human oversight to navigate ethical considerations and mitigate potential risks. The keynote also examined the European Union's proactive stance on AI regulation, particularly through the forthcoming AI Act, which aims to establish a robust framework for the responsible development and deployment of AI technologies. The proceedings encompass a wide array of research contributions, reflecting the conference's commitment to fostering knowledge transfer and interdisciplinary exchange. Topics span from data processing and machine learning to e-healthcare innovations and the societal impacts of emerging technologies. Notably, discussions on AI's role in healthcare, legal frameworks, and education underscore the critical need for ethical standards and regulatory measures to ensure that technological progress aligns with societal well-being. As we present the 2023 CERC proceedings, we extend our gratitude to Ana Mar Fernández Pasarín and Santiago Ariel Villar Arias, both from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona (Spain) for their exceptional work as Local Chairs. We also deeply appreciate the contributions of our esteemed Co-Chairs, whose dedication and expertise greatly enriched this event: Haithem Afli, Munster Technological University, Ireland; Udo Bleimann, Darmstadt University of Applied Sciences, Germany; Dirk Burkhardt, Software AG, Darmstadt, Germany; Robert Loew, Centre for Applied Informatics (z.a.i.), Darmstadt, Germany; Ingo Stengel, Hochschule Karlsruhe, University of Applied Sciences, Germany; Haiying Wang, Ulster University, United Kingdom; and Huiru (Jane) Zheng, Ulster University, United Kingdom. Their collective efforts were instrumental in making this conference a success. |

At that stage, we were hoping to be able to meet face-to-face here in Cork, the city were everything in CERC started. Even it was not possible to host an onsite event at the end, it is great that we are able to live stream the conference for the first time and organise virtual networking sessions in addition to the privilege of having great speakers and special track sessions. CERC is an opportunity to welcome not just our European friends and colleagues, but also those from farther afield. Munster Technological University punches above its weight in the areas of Artificial Intelligence, Cyber security and computer science research in general, principally through National, European and international funds and collaborations. So we believe it is appropriate that CERC is being held again in our University. We are of course grateful to everyone who submitted a paper; whether your work was selected for presentation or not, if no-one had submitted, we wouldn?t have had a conference. For those of you whose work was selected for presentation online, well done! Along the way, we have been helped greatly by the program committee and my fellow program chairs, particularly: Prof Udo Bleimann and his invaluable support throughout the conference; Prof Huiru Zheng; Prof Ingo Stengel, Dr. Haiying Wang, and Prof Denise Reichel for co-organising the conference. Dirk Burkhardt and Dr. Robert Loew put a great effort into setting up the website and conference management system and preparing the conference programme and proceedings. We are also extremely grateful to Munster Technological University, Ulster University, Hochschule Karlsruhe and Hochschule Darmstadt for providing invaluable support to the conference. Finally, we really hope that you all enjoy the conference, that you benefit from the excellent programme that has been assembled, and that you can virtually discover Cork during the virtual coffee breaks. |

Today the western world needs significant more well educated employees, often named as experts. To be attractive for the job market the employees have to stay up-to-date and to improve their skills continuously, so lifelong-learning becomes important for the business carrier. But especially this advanced learning becomes difficult for people in rural regions. The existing strategies like improving kills on adult education centres is not appropriated for the rural population because of e.g. traveling costs. To solve this discriminating circumstance is the main goal of the RURALeNTER project. The project aims to develop a new approach how advanced education can be provided to the rural population by using modern technologies over internet. The effective use of specifically to the requirements of rural population developed internet tools enables even for beginners the possibility to be similar effective as the advanced training that is provided in urban regions in the traditional form. The resulting approach was tested and used amongst others in Spain, Austria and Romania. |

Abstract | Links | BibTeX | Tags: e-Knowledge, e-Learning, Learning in Rural Areas, Learning Strategy, Platform, Portal, Provider, Virtual Learning @inproceedings{Burkhardt2011f, Today’s society especially in the western world is marked by life-long learning, because of an increasing technology development primary in Information Communication Technologies and because of an increasing need of up-to-date experts. In contrast to urban regions, the education in rural areas often is only possible virtually. Therefore, a various number of e-Learning Systems exist, that are oftentimes hard to use especially for less computer experienced users. For providing a facilitated access to e-Knowledge in such e-Learning Systems this paper describes an approach for developing an easy usable and understandable portal that furthermore aims to achieve a positive emotional feeling. These emotional aspects, subsumed in user experience, are a necessary factor if the user should be motivated and supported during his learning process. |
