EuProGigant Project Workshop in Vienna

27/03/2023/in Events, Events & Public Relations, Project, Software AG/by Dirk Burkhardt

On 09/10 March the team of the European Research Project EuProGigant held a workshop in Vienna. At the official first part of the workshop, the new partners of the enlarged team were welcomed, and the funding bodies were briefed about the current project stage and the future objectives, especially those together with the new partners. The added partners bring some highly appreciated expertise into the project which will help to set up and demonstrate the data ecosystem that will have huge potential and benefit for SMEs in the future. As could be imagined, building an open European data infrastructure that advances a resilient, data-driven, and sustainable industry in Europe, requires knowledge from various technical fields.

The unofficial second part of the workshop aimed at planning the next concrete steps in the project and strengthening the common picture of the proposed infrastructure that is based on the GAIA-X outcomes. During the breaks, there was also the ability to visit the pilot factory 4.0, where the Vienna partners of the Technical University research on various new production procedures and approaches.

At the Hanover Fair (https://www.hannovermesse.de/en) on 17-21 April 2023, you could meet the project and get a view of the current results.

Became Project Member in EuProGigant

24/03/2023/in Events, Events & Public Relations, Project, Research & Development/by Dirk Burkhardt

Almost two months ago I joined the German-Austrian research project EuProGigant to support and temporarily represent the work from the Software AG side. In many ways, the project was topically something new and different from what I did before since the focus lies majorly on backend work with a high emphasis on security and interoperability. Furthermore, in the previous research action GAIA-X, the foundations have been defined and specified and should be applied as concrete implementation in the frame of the EuProGigant project.

The project EuProGigant stands for “European Production Giganet” and aims at calamity-avoiding, self-orchestration of the value chain, and learning ecosystems. The binational research project for smart and sovereign use of data in the European manufacturing industry. The project is carried out by an Austrian-German project consortium led by TU Wien and TU Darmstadt, with the goal of building a multi-location, digitally networked production ecosystem. As a lighthouse project for the GAIA-X initiative, which strives to build an open European data infrastructure, EuProGigant advances a resilient, data-driven, and sustainable industry in Europe. The ecosystem, which consists of data and infrastructure ecosystems, should show how to practically realize added value for customers and manufacturing companies through value creation based on smart and sovereign use of data. This should strengthen European industry and drives the contribution of industry to the sustainable development of Europe.

GAIA-X is a European initiative to build a common, secure, and sovereign data infrastructure for Europe based on the principles of trust and transparency. It was launched in early 2020, driven by policy and the economy. The aim of GAIA-X is to develop the new data infrastructure on the basis of the European legal framework, reducing dependence on large cloud providers such as Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Alibaba, and others. GAIA-X is the first opportunity to apply European standards for the secure and sovereign use of data in manufacturing. GAIA-X is paving the way for resilient value creation and learning ecosystems because it provides tools on how to design a virtual marketplace that is independent, overarching, and secure.
